About “It Isn’t True”
This song was written about people we once knew well. It tells a true story of a
relationship that struggled for years before finally coming apart.
One partner tried relentlessly to make the relationship work, while the other
resisted change. Over time, hope faded, and the decision to leave became
unavoidable.
The song reflects the painful realization that love alone is not always enough, and
that accepting the truth can be the hardest part of all.
Track 11: It Isn’t True string arrangement and guitar: Matt Miller, acoustic guitar and vocals:

It Isn’t True

For so long we’ve tried to fight off the feeling
That we don’t belong together anymore
It hurts inside when I think of leaving you
But I know I have to go
Nothing’s changed that matters
You’re still the one that I run to
I thought I could live with you
Just the way you are
But I see now
It Isn’t True
It Isn’t True
You’re my friend, you’re my lover, but I need so much more
Than you could give me even if you tried
When you’re here I’m alone, when you’re gone, I’m alone
And I’m drowning in the river that I’ve cried
Nothing’s changed that matters
You’re still the one that I run to
I thought I could live with you
Just the way you are
But I see now
It Isn’t True
It Isn’t True
We keep trying to get it right
But we never really do
Oh baby it’s not worth the pain
We put ourselves through
For so long we’ve tried to fight off the feeling
That we don’t belong together anymore
