About “My Life”
This song came from thinking about how overwhelming life can sometimes feel.
Focusing on hardship or disappointment can lead a person to feel insignificant
and stuck.
Life can resemble a situation comedy without any humor, and in those moments
it’s easy to want to give up. The idea that resonated with me was not escape, but
pause… the ability to step back, reset, and begin again.
This song is dedicated to anyone who finds themselves at that crossroads. My
hope is that they see another way forward and remember that their story is not
finished.
Track 12: My Life – drums: Dave Schoepke, bass and guitar: Matt Miller, acoustic guitar

My Life

My Life is playing live every day
Sometimes I wish I could turn it off and walk away
The storyline never seems to change very much
I'm always broke, in debt, out of luck, or out of touch
And I never seem to play a very important part
My Life is like a situation comedy
Everything happens in a funny sort of way
I appreciate the irony and I choke on the futility
But I want to be the star in My Life one day
In My Life I do nothing wonderful
I take up space in a house that is not beautiful
I take my place in a family that does not speak
We all exist as if related but our connections are weak
And I never seem to play a very important part
My Life is like a situation comedy
Everything happens in a funny sort of way
I appreciate the irony and I choke on the futility
But I want to be the star in My Life one day
My Life is playing live every day
Sometimes I wish I could turn it off and walk away
